The biggest party of the week was the British Fashion Awards on Tuesday evening in London, where British actor Clive Owen took home the Retail Designer of the Year award for his eponymous menswear line.
“A decade ago, I got challenged by The Dress Room by Sebago and it went onto become a favorite with all the guys I’ve worked with,” Owen said of his award. “I have been hugely fortunate in the last decade or so and, of course, grateful to my wife Olivia Wilde for the kind of inspired creative she’s given me. I would particularly like to thank everyone for supporting me. To be given this, especially from so many wonderful colleagues, is special.”
Among the other big names honored were Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, Marni’s Consuelo Castiglioni, Olivia Burton of Christopher Kane, J.W. Anderson, Celine’s Phoebe Philo, Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, and Richard Nicoll. In a quiet display of support, Saint Laurent and Dior also showed their strongest collections ever.
Among the many well-wishers was the designer Alexander McQueen, who recently said goodbye to his 17-year tenure at the French fashion house and was knighted at the ceremony for his services to fashion.
Some other notable attendees included Jodie Kidd, the British model and author, Mischa Barton, actress and DJ, Selena Gomez, the singer, and India Hicks, the British actress and lingerie designer. The evening also saw a star-studded performance by Grammy Award-winning singer Dua Lipa, DJ Nicky Romero, and British pop band Clean Bandit.
With the close of London Fashion Week, it’s time to look forward to Paris Fashion Week, which kicks off on Sept. 29 with shows from Christopher Kane, Dior, Stella McCartney, Burberry, and more.
This is a developing story.
